WHAT TO PUT IN YOUR DAYPACK ON KILIMANJARO

With most of your luggage carried by porters on the mountain, it’s important that you remember to carry the essential items that you will need with you during the day while walking, such as water bottles etc. This list will help you to sort out which things to take with you, and which items to leave for your porters to carry.

Normally you will not see your backpack from the moment you hand it to the porter in the morning to at least lunchtime, and maybe not until the end of the day. It’s therefore necessary to pack everything that you may need during the day in your bag that you carry with you. Some suggestions, in no particular order:

sweets

water and water purifiers

camera and spare film/batteries

the guidebook/maps

sunhat/sunglasses and sun cream

compass

toilet paper and trowel

rainwear

walking sticks and knee supports

medical kit, including chapstick/lip ice

watch

whistle

lunch (supplied by your crew)
